When Nothing Is All You Have

The ease at which the women ministry leaders who were interviewed before me spoke of their work and successes, left me speechless since I did not have a large-scale ministry which had been around for years or was widely known, like they did.  So to calm my nerves I tried to recall the questions I received in the mail which would serve as a basis for the interview.   As I continued to watch the confidence and comfort of the other interviewees, words I prepared to speak, steadily seeped from my mind and memory, until I was left, with nothing.

As the camera technician offered his hand to help me to the stage, I called on The Holy Spirit like never before.  Each step toward the interview sofa further emptied me.  By the time I sat down, the only words I could speak were: “Lord, help me.  Give me words, please.  Father, speak for me.  Holy Spirit, I call upon you to utter  in my stead, for I am unable.  Holy Spirit – I need you.”

When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.” Luke 12:11-12

As Samantha and Jennifer reviewed their interview notes, my discomfort eased a bit when I remembered that the questions I’d answered and sent back to them, were ones I could easily answer, such as: When did I start writing? Had I written other books before, etc….

The same technician who walked me to the interview sofa pointed the camera to Samantha and Jennifer, then began his countdown, “in three, two, one…”  When Samantha began with, “So, tell us your story…”  I was taken aback.  What?, I thought.  That wasn’t a question I  remembered being on the submission sheet.  I breathed deeply and lifted the question to The Lord.

And here’s what happened:

Tell Your Story.  Live Your Calling.
